What they are:
The Bloodhound is a large scent hound bred for exceptional tracking ability. They have loose, wrinkled skin, long ears and a powerful nose used for trailing people and wildlife. Coat colors commonly include black-and-tan, liver-and-tan and red.

Temperament:
Bloodhounds are gentle, affectionate and single-minded when on a scent. They are patient with family members and children but can be stubborn due to their tracking drive.

Care & exercise:
Exercise should include long sniffing walks and securely fenced areas for safe exploration—mental work is essential. Grooming is low-maintenance aside from regular ear care and cleaning wrinkles to prevent skin issues. Health screens should cover hip dysplasia and bloat risk.

Best suited for:
Handlers and families who can provide time for scent work, training patience, and secure outdoor space; excellent for search-and-rescue enthusiasts and active households who appreciate a calm, determined tracker.
