What they are:
The Chug is a friendly designer cross between a Chihuahua and a Pug created to deliver big personality in a small body. Chugs typically range from toy to small sizes and show a mix of Chihuahua alertness and Pug’s compact, expressive features. Coat types vary—short and smooth is most common—with colors across fawn, black, tan and parti patterns.
Temperament:
Chugs are affectionate, playful and often quite outgoing. They enjoy close companionship and will happily become lap dogs. They can inherit a stubborn streak from both parents but respond well to gentle, reward-based training. Early socialization helps reduce reactivity toward strangers and other dogs.
Care and exercise:
Grooming needs are minimal for short coats—regular brushing and dental care are important. Exercise demands are low to moderate: short daily walks and indoor play meet their activity needs. Watch for breathing or eye issues inherited from Pugs and dental issues from Chihuahuas; regular veterinary checks are advised.
Best suited for:
City dwellers, apartment owners and families who want a small, affectionate companion. Chugs are ideal for people who want an easygoing lap dog that still enjoys playtime and short outings.
